A history making event for our societies is in the planning stages. At the 2005 convention in Pierre, SD, the GRHS members in attendance at the annual business meeting voted to host a joint convention with AHSGR in 2008. A committee was appointed and work was begun. The joint convention of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia will be held at the Parkway Plaza Hotel in Casper, Wyoming on July 28 - August 3, 2008. The activity of the week will begin with AHSGR board meetings on Monday, July 28. The convention program will begin on Wednesday, July 30. The planning committee is working hard to try to incorporate the traditions and cultures of the societies' two separate conventions into one exciting event. The committees for the convention will be co-chaired by one member from each society and staffed by members of both societies. Co-chairs of the convention will be Patti Sellenrick, who is representing AHSGR and Al Feist, who is representing GRHS. The planning committees for the societies have met twice at the convention headquarters in Casper. A preliminary schedule has been laid out and convention committee have been selected. Now volunteers will be needed to work on the details of the committee. We need you! To make this historic event successful, many volunteers are needed to act as co-chairpersons of committees and to help with committees. The following are the committees that have been set up:
If there is a particular committee you are willing to serve on or job that you would be willing to do, please contact either Al Feist at afeist@westriv.com (701-878-4269) or Patti Sellenrick at gsellenr@bresnan.net Again, reserve the dates, July 28 - Aug 3, 2008, for the 2008 joint convention in Casper, Wyoming. look for details on the GRHS and AHSGR websites and in upcoming newsletters. Please look at the list of committees needed and volunteer your time and talent. This will be a tremendous opportunity for the two societies to come together and experience a very memorable event!
